Privacy Notice
This notice explains what personal information Lakeshore Insurances collects, how we use and share it, how we protect it, and the choices and rights you have. Effective October 15, 2026.
This Privacy Notice applies to Lakeshore Insurances ("Lakeshore Insurances," "we," "us" or "our"), to this website, to our reseller partner portal, and to information we collect by phone, email, in person or through our licensed partners when you ask for a quote, apply for or buy insurance, or contact us. Insurance companies we place your policy with have their own privacy notices, which apply to the information they hold.
1. Information we collect
We collect the information needed to quote, place and service auto insurance. Depending on how you work with us, this may include:
- Contact information: name, mailing and garaging address, email address and phone number.
- Driver information: driver's license numbers and state, dates of birth, marital status, and the relationship of household drivers.
- Vehicle information: year, make, model, vehicle identification number (VIN), use, and where the vehicle is kept.
- Driving and claims history: accidents, violations, license suspensions, SR-22 requirements, prior insurance and claims.
- Information from consumer reporting agencies: when an insurance company uses them, reports such as motor vehicle records (MVR), CLUE claims-history reports, and credit-based insurance scores.
- Policy and transaction information: coverage selections, quotes, applications, signatures, policy numbers and payment status. Card payments are not taken through this website or our partner portal.
- Communications: messages, notes from calls, and your contact preferences.
- Technical information: IP address, browser type and the date and time of requests, which our servers record for security and to prevent abuse.
We collect this information from you, from licensed partners who help you, from insurance companies, and, where permitted by law, from consumer reporting agencies and other insurance-support organizations.
2. How we use information
- To prepare quotes and compare coverage options for you.
- To submit applications and bind requests to insurance companies and to service your policy, including endorsements, renewals, ID cards and SR-22 filings.
- To respond to your questions and requests.
- To manage our reseller partner program, including licensing checks and commission tracking.
- To protect against fraud, secure our systems, and keep audit records.
- To comply with insurance, consumer-protection and other legal obligations.
3. How we share information
We share personal information only as needed to serve you or as the law requires or allows:
- Insurance companies we request quotes from or place your policy with.
- Licensed partners who are serving you, such as the partner office where you started your quote.
- Service providers under contract who help us operate, such as hosting, email and document providers, and who must protect the information and use it only for our services.
- As required by law, including to the Illinois Secretary of State for SR-22 filings, to regulators such as the Illinois Department of Insurance, in response to lawful requests, and to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act notice
As a financial institution under the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), we must tell you how we handle nonpublic personal information. We do not disclose nonpublic personal information about our customers or former customers to nonaffiliated third parties except as permitted by law, such as to process and service your insurance, to service providers under contract, and to comply with legal requirements. Because we do not share information in ways that would require it, there is no need to opt out of sharing under the GLBA. We restrict access to nonpublic personal information to people who need it to serve you, and we maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect it.
5. Your rights under the Illinois Insurance Code
Article XL of the Illinois Insurance Code, the Insurance Information and Privacy Protection provisions (215 ILCS 5/1001 et seq.), gives Illinois residents rights regarding personal information collected in connection with insurance transactions:
- Notice of insurance information practices. This notice describes the kinds of information we collect, the sources, and the circumstances in which we may disclose it. You may ask us for more detail about our practices.
- Access. You may submit a written request to see recorded personal information about you that we reasonably can locate and retrieve, and to learn to whom we have disclosed it, as the law provides.
- Correction. You may ask us in writing to correct, amend or delete recorded personal information about you that you believe is inaccurate. If we agree, we will make the change and notify those the law requires us to notify. If we disagree, you may file a statement explaining why you disagree, which will be included with the information.
- Reasons for adverse underwriting decisions. If an insurer declines your application, or offers coverage on different terms because of information about you, you have the right to be told the specific reasons in writing on request, and the personal information that supports them, and to learn how to access and correct that information. Insurers usually make these decisions; we will help direct your request to the right company.
Some information, such as information relating to a claim or legal proceeding, may be limited by law.
6. How we protect information (Illinois Personal Information Protection Act)
We use reasonable security measures appropriate to the nature of the information, consistent with the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act (815 ILCS 530). These include:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for this website and our partner portal.
- Encryption of driver's license numbers at rest.
- Individual sign-ins for partner portal users, access limited to authorized licensed users, and audit logs of portal activity.
- Contracts requiring service providers to protect the information they handle for us.
If a breach of security affects personal information of Illinois residents, we will notify affected residents, and others as required, in the manner and time frame the law requires.
7. Biometric information
We do not collect, capture, store or use biometric identifiers or biometric information, such as fingerprints, face geometry or voiceprints, as those terms are defined in the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14).
8. Cookies and tracking
This website uses only essential cookies needed for it to work securely, such as a session cookie and a security token that protects our forms. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies, and we do not use analytics pixels. Because we do not track you across sites, there is nothing to opt out of; you can still block or delete cookies in your browser, although forms and the partner portal may not work without the essential ones.
9. Calls and text messages
Our forms include an optional box you can check to let Lakeshore Insurances and its licensed partners call or text you about insurance, including by automated technology. This consent is optional and is not a condition of purchase. We handle calls and texts in line with the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Illinois Telephone Solicitations Act (815 ILCS 413).
You can revoke consent at any time by replying STOP to any text message, by telling us during a call, or by contacting us using the details below. Message and data rates may apply. We may still contact you about an existing policy or request in ways the law allows, such as by email.
10. Children's privacy
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through it. Information about minor drivers in a household is collected from a parent or guardian to quote or service a policy.
11. Data retention
We keep records for as long as needed to provide our services and as required by insurance record-keeping laws and other legal obligations. When records are no longer needed, we securely delete or destroy them.
12. Your choices
- You can request a quote without agreeing to calls or texts.
- You can opt out of calls and texts at any time, as described above.
- You can ask to access or correct your information, as described in section 5.
- You can ask us questions about how your information is used or shared.
13. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The effective date below shows when it was last revised. If we make material changes, we will post the updated notice here and, where the law requires, notify customers directly.
